New Jersey's Visual Arts Center Unveils Innovative Exhibitions Exploring Human Interaction with Spaces

Beginning February 7, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit will launch a series of exhibitions that delve into the concept of human interaction within various spaces. These exhibitions, which will run until May 18, showcase diverse media forms such as technology, textiles, and printmaking. The exhibits aim to explore how individuals engage with their surroundings through different artistic expressions. Key highlights include a traveling exhibition curated by Jordan Horton, an installation by Iranian artist Leila Seyedzadeh, and a solo show by New Jersey printmaker Michael Dal Cerro. Additionally, the Art Center will host interactive workshops and a closing event featuring artist talks.

The Main Gallery will feature "ETA: Rerouted," an exhibition organized by the Baltimore-based collective strikeWare. This exhibit examines transit-related phenomena using advanced media and technology. Initially unveiled in November 2024 at VisArts in Rockville, Maryland, it has since traveled to Summit as part of VACNJ’s Emerging Curator Program. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the impact of transportation systems on daily life and societal structures, offering a unique perspective on mobility and urban planning.

In the Mitzi and Warren Eisenberg Gallery, Iranian artist Leila Seyedzadeh will present "Under the Sky, Above the Sea," a new installation inspired by her cultural heritage and natural landscapes. Her work incorporates mended textiles, symbolizing resilience and continuity. To complement this exhibition, the Art Center will host a Fabric Dyeing Workshop on April 19, providing participants with hands-on experience in textile arts. This workshop aims to deepen public engagement with traditional techniques while fostering creativity.

Meanwhile, the Marité & Joe Robinson Strolling Gallery will showcase "Not Built in a Day," a solo exhibition by New Jersey printmaker Michael Dal Cerro. His works depict vibrant cityscapes influenced by classical architecture, expressionism, and woodblock prints. Through his art, Dal Cerro explores the evolution of urban environments and the intricate balance between nature and human intervention. Visitors can expect to see dynamic compositions that challenge conventional perceptions of space and form.

To conclude the exhibition period, the Visual Arts Center will host a free Last Look closing event on May 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy an informal artist talk and reception, offering a final opportunity to engage with the featured artists and their creations. This event promises to be an enriching experience for both art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
