A 49-year-old resident of Oakland Park, Florida, has faced serious legal consequences following a tragic traffic accident in Pompano Beach. Angelo Michael Ragonese was apprehended by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) causing death, vehicular homicide, property damage, and child neglect. The incident occurred several months ago and resulted in the death of another driver and injuries to his juvenile son. This case highlights the devastating impact of reckless driving and the importance of road safety.

The collision took place on September 17, 2024, at the intersection of East Atlantic Boulevard and Northeast 15th Avenue. According to the arrest report, Ragonese was operating a 2022 BMW M4 coupe at an excessive speed—approximately 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. At this high velocity, he collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry sedan that was attempting to make a left turn. The force of the impact caused the Toyota to spin before crashing into a nearby Truist Bank building. Meanwhile, the BMW continued down the road before finally coming to a stop.

Witnesses described Ragonese's behavior after the crash as erratic and aggressive. He reportedly yelled profanities at the unconscious driver of the Toyota and was verbally abusive toward a nurse who was trying to assist. The data from the BMW indicated that the vehicle was traveling at 124 mph moments before the collision, slowing to 83 mph when its airbags deployed. Toxicology reports later confirmed the presence of cocaine in Ragonese's system on the morning of the incident.

Ragonese and his son were transported to Broward Health North with non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the other driver sustained critical injuries and passed away two days later in the hospital. Following these events, Ragonese was taken into custody without bond and is currently being held at the Broward Main Jail. This case underscores the severe repercussions of impaired driving and serves as a stark reminder of the need for responsible behavior on the roads.
